CREATIVE WRITING COURSES ON PAXOS

‘LIVING THE DREAM - MAKING MONEY FROM YOUR HOLIDAYS':
12 - 19 MAY 2014

Heidi Fuller-love is the New York Travel Writers Society's
2013 Travel Radio Personality of the Year

Whether you just want to pen a few pieces about your holidays for the local newspaper, fancy having your own travel blog or would like to set about becoming a travel writer in earnest, this course, led by highly successful travel writer and photographer, Heidi Fuller-love, will give you the starting blocks to build your travel writing skills and find a relevant outlet to see your work in print.

Twenty years ago Heidi Fuller-love was a London comedy club owner with a theatre degree, then she moved to France to open her own hotel and started writing about her adopted country's cuisine and culture for various Francophile magazines. Today she lives between France and Greece, travels for six months of the year and is a highly successful travel and food writer. She hosts a monthly travel show reporting live from destinations around the globe for British Airways in-flight radio and her features and photographs regularly appear in magazines and newspapers worldwide ranging from The Guardian and The LA Times, to Thomas Cook Travel magazine and Asian Geographic. In Spring 2013 Heidi won the New York Travel Writers Society' award for Travel Radio Personality of the Year for her monthly for her British Airways travel shows. She was also one of the five finalists in the Travel Broadcaster of the Year category of the prestigious 2013 British Travel Press Awards.

Heidi can’t promise miracles, but she does guarantee that, whether you’re a hobby writer who’d like to pen articles about your holidays and see those articles published locally, or a keen traveller who wants to earn extra money from doing what they love, this course will give you a major boost in the right direction.

The course will be based around group tuition sessions on five mornings a week and there will also be an opportunity for one-to-ones. Afternoons will be free, leaving plenty of time to carry on writing, explore Paxos or simply relax. During the week the course will cover:

  • how to find out what sells and then identify what you can write about (you will be asked to bring with you to Paxos one or two copies of the magazines/newspapers where you hope to see your work published so that Heidi can focus on these with you during the course)
  • getting started (organising your office, finding useful contacts etc)
  • writing a pitch (research skills, finding an angle etc)
  • writing on the road (how to stay in touch, what to take, how to get organised, researching and selling features before you go etc)
  • how to contact editors and give them what they want
  • useful resources to help you climb the learning curve
  • finding markets, more information and useful resources
  • providing relevant photos that will help you sell your articles and make more money

and you will leave the course with one or several complete articles, and detailed ideas of newspapers or magazines that could be interested in publishing your work. So come and join Heidi for what promises to be a fun, fascinating and information-packed week of travel writing.

Cost: The course costs £795 per person, which includes tuition as described above, accommodation in a shared twin room in a villa with private swimming pool near Loggos, one of the three main villages on Paxos, return transfers between Corfu Airport and your accommodation on Paxos, breakfast, 2 lunches and 4 dinners (with wine) in local tavernas, welcome and farewell drinks, and any local transport required in connection with the course. There is a supplement of £125 per person for sole use of a twin/double room.

For full details of what will be included in the cost of the course and of the accommodation, please see Writing Courses Further Information’.

Alternative accommodation and extending your holiday: If you already have your own accommodation, then it is usually possible just to join the group tuition sessions. We can also help you to find accommodation if you would like to stay somewhere other than our shared villas or would like to extend your holiday and spend a few additional days on Paxos or a few days on Corfu, either before or after the writing course. Please contact us to discuss the options.

To Book: Please read our Booking Conditions and the Important Information section of this website and then complete and submit an On-Line Booking Form. 'Living the Dream - Making Money From Your Holidays' is open to people of all ages and abilities aged 18 or over. However, Paxos is a relatively hilly island and we therefore do not feel that it is suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.

Second Holiday/Course Discount: We will give you a discount of £40 if you book any two holidays or courses in our current programme.

Further Information: Do have a look round our website and, if you would like further information about any of our holidays and courses or about Paxos more generally, then please do not hesitate to Contact Us.
