PAXOS: THE ULTIMATE GREEK ISLAND RETREAT

The tiny Greek island of Paxos is the ideal location for a yoga holiday and Paxos Life Activities is therefore offering two holidays on the island in Summer 2011: ‘Yoga for Life’ and Kundalini Yoga.

The tiny Greek island of Paxos provides a true haven of tranquillity for anyone wanting to take some time out of the rat race and simply relax. With its serene olive groves, white-washed churches and deserted beaches, it offers the perfect opportunity to tap into the peace and beauty of an inspirational landscape, and is the ultimate destination for a yoga holiday.

Specialist interest holiday operator, Paxos Life Activities, is therefore offering two yoga holidays on the island in Summer 2011 and is looking to extend the number and range of yoga and well-being holidays it offers in subsequent years. Both holidays are suitable for everyone from beginners to the more experienced.

‘Yoga for Life’ (2 – 9 May 2011) will use yoga, combined with a variety of other techniques, including life coaching, therapeutic art, meditation and homeopathy, to give those taking part more energy and self-confidence, to improve their ability to make decisions, help them to explore their creative powers, and live with more purpose and joy. It will be led by Jane Montague, who, as well as being a qualified yoga teacher, is also a qualified homeopath, remedial masseuse, therapeutic art counsellor and NLP practitioner. Jane regularly leads meditation groups, and yoga and social art classes for people of all ages and abilities in the South East of England.

The
‘Late Summer Yoga Week’ (26 September –
3 October 2011) will provide the ideal opportunity to experience Kundalini yoga, one of the less well known forms of yoga. The techniques of Kundalini yoga are profoundly transformational and work more rapidly than any other form of yoga. Kundalini yoga is also more holistic than other forms of yoga and consists of several elements, all of which are brought into every session. It can be described as a technology for spiritual growth that provides the strength to change and to expand one’s capacity for life. The holiday will be led by Barbara Lyndley, founder of SimplyB Yoga and a qualified member of the Kundalini Yoga Teachers’ Association. Barbara teaches classes and workshops in her native Staffordshire and neighbouring counties.

Both holidays will be based around early morning and some evening group sessions, leaving afternoons free to explore the beautiful Paxos countryside or simply relax.

Accommodation will be in shared villas with their own pools and spacious terraces set in the shade and tranquillity of the olive groves above the village of Loggos, one of the three main villages on the island.

And what makes the yoga holidays offered by Paxos Life Activities so special and different from the rest? Above everything, it is the location. Paxos is a really beautiful island that has for the most part escaped the effects of mass tourism and, with its friendly locals and unrushed pace of life, gives visitors the opportunity to experience Greece as it used to be and completely escape from the rat race.

In addition to the yoga sessions, the company also enables clients to experience village life and learn something of the history of the island through the optional programme of activities that it offer: cookery demonstrations, talks about the olive and the vine, historical walks and greek dancing lessons.

Finally, Paxos Life Activities is a small specialist company offering a very high level of personal service through a Director who has nearly 30 years experience in the travel business and who is resident on the island all year round.

A range of Creative Writing, Painting and Photography holidays is also available, along with skippered and bareboat Yacht Charter.
